Double Knit Jacket with Floral Design from Book 55 Matching Longline jacket in Forsell Shamal 20% wool, 80% Acrylic 4 ply double knitting (DK) yarn.

Designed to coordinate with the 4 ply jumper above, this double knit jacket has a floral pattern divided with vertical lines which are continued down into the specially designed bottom borders and the cuffs. This attention to detail is continued into the button bands and the neckband.

Knitted in Forsell Shamal double knitting, multi-sized for sizes 30"-48".

The diamond pattern on this 4 ply sweater is edged with specially designed borders which match the main pattern perfectly and which form a naturally fluted edge. This border pattern is repeated on the neckband and on the cuffs.

Knitted in 4 ply Courtelle (Acrylic), multi-sized 30"-48"

All the stitch patterns in this book are 24 stitch so can be used with electronic and punchcard machines.

4 Ply Sweater with Small Stitch Pattern from Book 55

Rather like a basket weave design, this 24 stitch pattern has no obvious direction and is therefore flattering for all figure types, as well as being a classic favourite.

Here, the stitch pattern is applied to a classic, long-line sweater with round neck, square armholes and close fitting cuffs. Shown in cream, we have also knitted this design in denim blue, which resulted in a very casual, contemporary, look.

Knitted in 4 ply Courtelle (Acrylic), muti-sized to fit sizes 32"-46".

The classic, longline, V neck cardigan sporting a neat, vertical design which continues down into the specially designed borders - if you look closely at the picture you will see how the borders naturally form an attractive fluted edge. Add a crisp, professional button band to complete the garment.

Classic Gansey Style Sweater in 4 Ply from Book 55 Along-line sweater that is quick to knit, too, as the main carriage is used from the ribbing at the welt until the pattern begins near the armholes.

The simple gansey pattern sets off this airforce blue yarn beautifully, and its simple structure is echoed by the unusual ridged neckband.

The matching, round neck cardigan is shown opposite. On this garment the garter carriage is used to give a very crisp finish to the button band - a technique which is often used in Busy Bee Basics' garter carriage designs and which could, of course, be used by garter carriage owners on standard gauge patterns, too.

The sweater and matching cardigan were both designed for and knitted in 4 ply Courtelle (Acrylic). Multi-sized for sizes 30"-48".

Photography: These garments were modelled by Polly Styrene, our resident dressmaker's dummy; she never complains, will stand still for hours and is happy to be studded with pins. But, being a dressmaker's dummy, she is not at her happiest when modelling longer-length knitwear.

New knitters - shortening garments If you would also prefer to knit and wear shorter garments, refer to the tension notes on the front of each pattern which will give you the number of rows to 10cm, and to the measurements on the charts page. To shorten a garment by 10cm (approx 4"), if the tension is 40 rows to 10cm, then you will want to shorten the garment by 40 rows. The easiest way is to knit the rib or bottom order as usual then, when starting the main pattern, set your row counter at 40 and not at zero, then continue to follow the pattern. Remember to do this for the front and for the back!
