NEW KNITTERS – HELP WITH NECKBANDS AND ARMBANDS

When working the Back neckline, the pattern tells you to "push 114(118-120-122-126) Ns to WP. With wrong side of Back facing, replace the centre back sts held on WY at each side of centre 0. Pick up the rem sts from each side of neck." We suggest you work as follows:

Pick up the 34(38-40-42-46) centre back sts which are held on WY. This leaves 40 Ns at WP at each side of neck.

Use a three needle transfer tool to pick up these sts. Although we picked up 40 sts at each side of the neck, you may find that you can pick up, for example, 38 or 42 sts without stretching the knitting – the secret is to pick up the sts evenly along the knitting and not to worry if the total number of stitches is slightly different from that stated in the pattern. Now pick up the same number of stitches on the opposite side of the neck. Every knitter, every machine and every shade of yarn might produce a slightly different result!

It is really important to make sure that you pick up the same number of sts at each side of the neck or armhole and that the pick up is nice and smooth. So if you have picked up 37 sts on the left, make sure you also pick up 37 sts on the right. If you picked up 45 sts on the left, make sure you also pick up 45 sts on the right.
